Our client is a multi-disciplined building regulatory firm with comprehensive consultancy services pertaining to the following disciplines:

  • Accessibility
  • Fire & Safety Engineering
  • Building Code / Regulatory Services.

They offer specialised services in key areas from concept through to the completion of construction.

In an environment where regulatory compliance is critical within the overall building design, control and approvals process, The Client ensures best practice in the interpretation and application of building regulations, codes, standards, and best practice.

In addition to the client’s proven experience in the interpretation of highly technical codes, the client’s active involvement in changes to legislation and regulatory requirements, coupled with constant liaison with the relevant authority having jurisdiction, allows the client to remain at the forefront of regulatory compliance.

Their offices have an eclectic team consisting of accredited fire safety engineers, accredited building surveyors, designers and consultants. Their point of difference is that they have an in-depth understanding and knowledge of building codes both locally and internationally. This enables them to adapt to suit a particular design – be it via a prescriptive or performance-based approach. This ultimately provides maximum value to clients, allows maximum architectural flexibility, and ensures that appropriate levels of safety / compliance with the relevant parts of the Building Code are met.

More about the role

The client is experiencing ongoing business success and continues to grow and develop. The client currently employs 12 people and has now reached a size that requires the business owner to be more strategically focused and less hands-on in the day-to-day running of the business. This need has created the opportunity for an Office Manager to take on the day-to-day coordination of activities that drive the business. While there are team leaders who manage the technical production of consultancy services it is still necessary that a single point of contact assists with the coordination of workload and allocation of resources to meet project deadlines. This function will be a key responsibility of the Office Manager.

A key challenge in the role will be to learn how the business operates, how it generates revenue and what is involved to ensure project deadlines are met.

The client has an annual turnover of $3 million and anticipates this to grow to $10 million over the next five years. To achieve this the client must be primed for scalability. This means there needs to be standardised operating procedures written and implemented for training purposes and to manage quality. The client will also become ISO accredited and this will be a project for the Office Manager.

About You

You enjoy being organised and you can skilfully ensure the team runs smoothly without controlling their every move. You are a skilled communicator and can bring a team on the journey as you drive improvements to systems and processes. Engagement with the team will be critical and understanding what each member does and how they add value to the team is essential. You learn quickly and you have solid commercial acumen. You have a good understanding of technology and Microsoft Office applications and are interested in investigating technology to drive smarter ways of operating. A key component to this role will be to look at the productivity of the business and to explore ways of improving efficiency and effectiveness. 

You have an open and friendly style, work well with others and can facilitate a constructive team culture.
