Inventory Controller

More about the role

The client has a modern temperature controlled facility managing over 400 SKU’s across 10,000 pallet positions.

As a food import and distribution business, inventory control is paramount to the success of the organisation. Managing inventory within the HACCP and GMP standards and meeting biosecurity accreditations will be critical. This demands that the Inventory Controller takes full ownership for the management of inventory within the site. Expiry dates and batch control measures are a key responsibility for the position.

While the vendor quality management system is excellent, a recent audit has proven that the processes are working but ownership of this responsibility is not in place. The Inventory Controller will need to take ownership and familiarise themselves with the standards and expectations.

Food safety standards, temperature controls, date controls and housekeeping standards are in place and need ongoing review and maintenance.

Approximately 70% products managed by the client are imported and this requires strong administrative control regarding the documentation. As a Biosecurity site this administrative control and adherence to procedures is essential in maintaining this important accreditation.

The Inventory Controller will be centre of warehouse, interfacing with the warehouse, sales, demand planning, purchasing and administration and customer service teams. Such a pivotal role demands excellent communication skills and a sound understanding of the interdependencies of each area to ensure that the business is operating smoothly and efficiently. The knowledge, experience and relational management of the key stakeholders, positions this role as a natural successor to the Warehouse Manager. It is the view of the Warehouse Manager to groom the Inventory Controller to take on the warehouse management responsibilities during leave and interstate travel.

This position will be strongly analytical. Tracking inventory losses, root cause analysis and review of systems and procedures to ensure disciplined routines are being followed will be essential to the success of the business and this position.
